Why the anime Record of Ragnarok has been blocked from streaming in India.
The anime's depiction of one of the main deities of Hinduism has caused significant backlash against the series, which ultimately led to its removal from the Indian version of the streaming platform. Record of
An anime series on Netflix called Record of Ragnarok is based on the same-named manga. The pantheon of gods who will determine humanity's fate is the subject of the television series. The gods decide against eradicating humanity and instead allow it to participate in the battle of Ragnarok, where it will fight for its life. 13 of the greatest human beings will engage in a death-defying duel with 13 of the most powerful gods with the aid of the valkyries; if 7 humans prevail, humanity will be spared. Adam, Buddha, and Jack the Ripper are just a few of the people chosen to represent humanity, while Zeus, Loki, and Shiva were chosen as gods.
Ragnarok has joined the growing list of Netflix anime adaptations, but why has the series been banned in India?
Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, issued a statement in October 2020 requesting that the creators of the manga Record of Ragnarok stop trivializing Lord Shiva and other Hindu deities. Zed worries that those who are unfamiliar with Hinduism might get the wrong impression of the gods from these depictions. Zed has previously voiced similar criticisms of other works of media, such as X:Men: Apocalypse, for their portrayals of Hindu deities. Zed was never able to stop the manga's creation, but because of how Shiva, the Destroyer, is portrayed in the series, Record of Ragnarok is no longer available to stream on Netflix in India.
Hinduism worships the god Shiva. The third member of the triumvirate, which consists of the three gods in charge of creating, maintaining, and destroying the world, is Shiva, one of the main Hindu deities. The world is created by Brahma and is preserved by Vishnu; Shiva, known as the "Destroyer," exists to destroy the world so that it can be created again. The destruction is not malicious; instead, it makes room for progress. As the mediator between good and evil, Shiva is revered. He frequently has a blue face and a third eye, which enables him to see inside himself but can also unleash destruction if it is turned outward.
